Recipes to Riches Recap

Sponsored by Woolworths

For the past few months, I have been a part of a group of bloggers working with the Channel Ten show Recipes to Riches. The jist of it was that ordinary people with a great recipe could have a crack at getting their product onto the shelves at Woolies, and hopefully win a bucket load of cash at the end.

Things got a little competitive among us. I was beside myself when I was assigned to discover Golden Greek Pizza because my love for the savoury far outweighs my need for sweet food.

And it was fantastic. I stocked up so I always had something on hand for lazy dinners.

This week the winner was announced and I bet my fellow bloggers ten bucks that pizza maker Chris Paschalidis was going to win and sat back and watched….

Complete travesty.

The results were based on sales, and the final 3 were Vicki and her Sweet Billie’s Cookies, Italian Concetta’s Croqs and Garth Midgley’s Chocorn.

The Chocorn took out the title. So what is it?

Well, Garth was at the movies a while back, eating popcorn and a choctop at the same time, when something occurred to him. What would chocolate covered popcorn taste like?

And apparently it tasted amazing, as his little idea has now earned him $100,000 and a partnership with Woolworths.  Garth has been making his Chocorn for a decade, with him admitting that he got quite obsessional about it.

It seems that Australia has latched onto his obsession in a similar fashion, with his product selling out tout de suite.

Garth. Not Kenny G.

There are 3 flavours. White Chocolate and Macadamia, Sea Salt and Milk Chocolate with Roasted Hazelnuts. But Garth has no plans to curb his obsession, with plans to expand his range to include questionable flavours such as Smoked Jalapeño and Arabic Coffee.

Chocorn will be back on the shelves in 2014.

But personally, Εξακολουθώ να πιστεύω ότι το ελληνικό πρέπει να έχει κερδίσει.
