Review – Windsor Golf Club.

Ok, so the last time I reviewed an eatery, I came under fire. Never had I written such a controversial post. If you missed it, click here.

I was ripped to shreds by folk like Andrew Bolt, Paul Murray, Miranda Devine and the commenters on the sections of different online news sites.

So we are going to play this one straight down the bat. Or should that be club…

On entering the Club, the first thing that struck me was the decor, which could only be described as pre-renovated ready. But this image was quickly pushed aside when a smiling man called Chris asked me whether I would be interested in purchasing some raffle tickets, to go into the chance to win either a meat tray, or a bulging box of fruit and veg. Yes indeed Chris. That would be fantastic.

I’m notoriously good at losing raffles. It was a streak that I was fairly certain would continue.

My sister Mrs Ryan was VERY excited about the raffle, but she is vegetarian so the fruit and veg box was the object of her desire. She posed with her tickets…

But she didn’t like the photo so I said I would put it through a very savage filtering before I published it.

But more on the gambling later.

A quick perusal of the menu revealed all the old favourites.

I find it VERY HARD to pass over a schnitzel, especially one prepared while listening to raffle calling and the faint din of the poker machines. I had a few questions for the staff. Like, are the schnitzels home make? YES! Are the burgers freshly prepared? YES! Is there a complete absence of rodent in the kitchen??

A quick glance over the lady’s shoulder indeed revealed a shining kitchen.

I confidently orders the schnitty, chips and salad with lemon, and a little gravy on the side. I do believe the Divine Ms M said it best that when ordering schnitzel, you would be better off just taping it to your ass, but it was a Friday night, and I was living dangerously.

And it was damn fine grub.

Desserts included a carmel meringue pie that the proprietors mother makes. It was the SHIZ I TELL YOU.

The kids desserts were included in the price of their meal, which was about $6. Complete bargain. Of course I had a bite of everyones everything and all were bloody delicious.
