One of my closest friends, well her best friend’s sister is….. MARRYING GEORGE CLOONEY!
Can you believe that? I suspect that means I am almost certain that I will be invited to the wedding. Which brings me to the question…
What to get the happy couple?
So George is 53 and Amal is 36, so I think that they will have most material possessions covered. So it is a tough one.
Back in our day, Mr Woog and I went to David Jones to register for gifts, which is what one did when they became engaged. We were advised about which cake fork was needed to live a full and socially acceptable life. We were steered towards expensive french pots and pans and we were guaranteed that living without a certain set of Wedgwood plates would be a huge mistake.
We took the bait hook line and sinker and we still have many of these items, still sitting in their boxes, in storage somewhere. Apart from a collection of glass-things that sit atop the kitchen cabinets gathering sticky dust.
Back in the day, the go-to gift was the white platter. We got 6 white platters, 3 of which have still survived. But all the fancy wine glasses have gone to the great dishwasher in the sky over the years, and we now have the ones from the $2 shop which are basically indestructible. Go figure?
We also have a large collection of glass vases. And I only JUST got rid of the last of the manly yellow towels we got as a set. THE (old) GOOD TOWELS did not survive the purge.
We got a toaster.
We had a toaster.
We got a painting from my gorgeous mates which I love.
But none of this is helping me in the search for the perfect gift for the gorgeous couple. Kanye and Kim was easy. A Taylor Swift CD.
So tell me, what memorable thing did you get for a wedding gift?
Any white platters?
