A bad week for Feminism.

Unless you have been living under a rock this week, (and trust me, sometimes that is a good thing) you may have noticed that the word de jour is feminism.

It began with Wendy Squires writing an opinion piece about Eddie McGuire being a good feminist.

To which my answer to her question is a big fat NO.

And then another smart woman, Clementine Ford, wrote a rebuttal.

And to top it all off, Mia Freedman swung the axe through the argument, sending non like-minded feminists to Spankytown.

Which of course led to a massive debate on Twitter about feminism.

To be honest sometimes it makes one head spin. It is almost like she who shouts the loudest is the best feminist. No one is going to doubt that we have a long way until true equality is achieved, but why are women still bitching and bickering with each other about it? Call me naive, call me idealistic, but can feminism just get on with it? It is embarrassing that some of media’s most influential women can carry on like high school students, slagging off each other at the bus-stop.

And until we stop creating content that pits women against women, should we just consider putting the feminist movement on the back burner, while we sort out shit out? This article is particularly revolting. But is designed, to again, fuel the fire in the sisterhood. A tactic as old as the hills. Because we should continue to doubt ourselves and make ourselves feel like shit by a bitter, angry women with a microphone. I am hoping that most of us can see it for what it is. A whole heap of bullshit.

YOU SHUT THE EFF UP!

Feminism is the belief that women should be allowed the same rights, power, and opportunities as men. That is it. Let’s get on with it, shall we ladies?

I am a feminist. There, I said it. I believe we have a long way to go to ensure that our daughters get paid the same as our sons. We will get there, but we are just going through an embarrassing patch right now.

Does Feminism Confuse you?
