Stick a fork in me. I’m done.

How are the school holidays treating you?

Here at WoogsWorld, I deploy many tactics to get us through them. This time it was just flat-out bribery. The boys started with a set amount of money. As behaviour deteriorated, a sum was detracted without threat or fanfare. Come 6pm this evening, whatever is left will be paid out. I am sure that this goes against the advice of every “parenting expert” out there, but fuck that.

I do not negotiate with terrorists. Gone are the days of compromise. I am the Mum and you do as I say.

And speaking of “parenting experts”, I always think that if you have a kid, and you get through the day with everyone still under the one roof, you are the expert. YOU ROCK!

Another thing that I did was take away all technology, bar for one hour after lunch where quiet pursuits were encouraged. This lead to a lot of old school games, and street cricket matches where all the kids in the street came out to play. You know, like back in our day. With all the available technology around, it is heartening to see that kids have not really changed much.

In other news, we went to a local garage sale and came across a huge, questionable green leather couch. We have been couch hunting for Jabba for years, and who knew! It was just around the corner! And for $35, we schlepped it home and guess what?

IT WORKS!

The minions set up a Soda Stand each afternoon, to raise money for Loud Shirt Day. Yesterday Lemon and Pomegranate Soda was on offer and I must say, it was the strongest trading day they had all week! All up they raised $200, plus learnt any lessons along the way, such as marketing, presentation and sales pitching, Bravo kiddos.

To make the soda, take a bottle of fizzy water, add the juice of 3 lemons, half a pomegranate and a splash of lemon barley cordial. Shake it up and pour over crushed ice. Seriously, it was the best drink ever!

As much as I have enjoyed this break, as always I am ready to return to our routine, of crazy rushed mornings, tight turn-around deadlines and just a little bit of quiet time. Quiet time….. AHHHHHHHHH.

What has been your secret to survival, these holidays.

And you can’t say gin!
