How to make pulled pork sliders.

Because my lovely friend Mrs Goodman is a sensational cook and generous with her expertise, she agreed to share with you the recipe for what she made for us for dinner last night. Those being pulled pork sliders. We are staying at her family’s cottage on Pittwater. It is so beautiful that this morning I started to question my current status s an agnostic person.

They are not suitable for vegetarians, they are #notpaleo nor are they any good for people who shun pork. And if you are someone who doesn’t like pork, please unfollow me immediately for we have nothing in common. (Unless it is for religious purposes.)

So may I present to you Mrs. Goodman’s Pulled Pork Sliders with Asian Slaw.

Right so you will need a shoulder of pork. Put it into a dutch oven *snigger because I am immature* with a can of Coke, a cup of hickory smoked BBQ sauce, a whole jar of Woolworths select Cajun Spices and an onion, diced finely. When I questioned that specific-ness of the Woolworths select label, she raised an eyebrow, so I didn’t question her. This blog post is NOT sponsored by Woolies, by the way. She just shops there.

So put the pork shoulder in with the *retch* fat layer on the top. Mix the other ingredients together and pour over the pig before placing the whole thing into a low over for 5-6 hours, and commence cocktail hour. (or 5-6 hours, as it turned out….)

After you drink a few Moscow Mules….

Pull it out of the oven and discard the fat. Place the very tender and falling apart pork onto a plate and use a fork to shred it.

Oh and the Asian Slaw? Mrs Goodman believes that the pork is very rich and requires a fresh asian slaw to cut though the richness. She used 3 bags of Woolworths Dry Slaw, and added 4 sliced spring onions, a cup of mint and a cup of coriander and then she dressed it with the following which she first combined in a jar…

  • Half a cup of rice wine vinegar
  • Half a cup of plain white vinegar
  • 2 Tablespoons of Castor Sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons of fish sauce
  • A teaspoon of crushed garlic
  • Teaspoon of chilli flakes

Dress, toss, stick your face in it…

But back to the pork!

Put the dutch oven with the remaining sauce back onto a hot stove top and bring it to boil, and reduce it until is is a hot mess of stickiness. Pour it over the pork, mix it though and holler “DINNER MOTHERFUCKERS!” (but without the motherfuckers because she is a nice lady with fine breeding and good manners….. unlike myself)

Oh, and the rest of the weekend wasn’t bad either…
