Recently I bought a couch online. I had been eyeing off this particular couch for a while now and when I saw those magical words appear on my screen….

Well I was like a rat up a drainpipe with my credit card in one hand and an apple and cinnamon muffin in the other.

IT IS TRUE! And it was delicious.

Yes, so we can buy a couch online in fact, we can pretty much order anything online which is a magical timesaver and makes browsing and scurrying around for good deals dead simple. I can spend hours looking at stuff, clicking through, sending URL’s to my sisters, insisting that their lives would be better with that particular thing in it.

Even when I am skint, I like to pretend that I am not and load up that cyber trolley. And when I am done, I get to the virtual cash register before dumping the lot, much like I had done in real life at the supermarket years ago when I had a screaming baby and a screaming toddler and I just. Could. Not. Take. It. Any. More.

You new mums out there…. You have it EASY! Online Grocery shopping wasn’t even a twinkle in my eye.

Truth be told I would much rather be at the beach then doing the grocery shopping. In fact, I think I would go so far as to say I would rather be at the dentist.

I know I am not alone when it comes to dedicated online spending, as I am one of the thousands of Australians who in the past year, spent 16.6 billion dollars in virtual stores.

So of course they have come up with some awards for all those pioneers and new businesses popping out from your computer. The StarTrack Online Retail Industry Awards (StarTrack ORIAS) celebrate the outstanding achievements and innovation by Australian online stores and for the first time this year, they are introducing a brand new category – the People’s Choice Award.

Support your favourite online store by casting a vote over on You could even win one of ten $1,000 gift cards (T&Cs apply). Voting closes 1 June.

So without further ado, here are a few businesses that I believe should be nominated. In no particular order, let us proceed…

My man Dan brings me liquid refreshments. Their prices are the best, their online site is very easy to navigate and if you live in the right areas, you can get you order on the same day if you get it in before noon. CLICK HERE

I have been a fan of Walnut Shoes for eons because they are great quality, very reasonably priced and their range for both kids and mammas are gorgeous. They are stocked in selected stores and have one bricks and mortar stores, but their online shop is fab, and they always seem to have a great sale on.

Ollie and Max is a great little online shop, which I discovered after finding their fabulous shirts at Paddington Markets. I have followed owner Sam’s success as her little business grew. They now ship globally, offer 21-day returns, personalized wrapping and fast delivery.

But her range is amazing with gorgeous shirts, skirts, dresses and scarves and the best bit is that the collection is sized from an 8 to a 24.

Oh my!

Madeline Charles is another smaller fashion brand whose designs are off the charts when it comes to fit and fabric. Started by sisters Gabi and Mim, their range is from size 14 through to 22 and is inspired by their travels.

Their clothes are BEAUTIFULLY made and my Mum is also a big fan.

While writing this post, I asked Mr. Woog what his favourite online store was. And it is Gumtree. Mr. Woog is forever looking at dirt bikes and gardening crap. I occasionally have a squiz around it as well. You never know what people are trying to get rid off.

Here is my beloved’s recently viewed list, despite me telling him he is not getting another bike.

Click here for GUMTREE, but be warned. You may get lost for hours. Gumtree isn’t really a store, but I thought I would give them a shout out, because after all, it was his answer…

So ok, this is another online shop that you could spend hours getting lost in. Tessa White runs Down That Little Lane, which is a collection of the best things that she has found.

What I find useful is the Gift Guides that she has put together, so you can shop for absolutely anyone. Even for yourself…

And finally, barely a week goes by without an email coming in from a reader who wants to know where I got that customized bus scroll that I blogged about years ago.

These guys are based in Queensland and have fabulous customer service. They are there to make sure that your order is just perfect and you can have so much fun designing your own canvas. I think that they are very well priced to boot. Free shipping always is a nice touch.

These make the best gifts ever…

If you have a favourite online business, whether it is big or small, show your support by voting for them in the StarTrack ORIAS People’s Choice Awards. I think it would be great to see some small independent retailers show the others that you don’t need to be a huge conglomerate to run a great business. And while you are at it, leave me a link to it in the comments so I can check it out.

What is your favourite online store?
