Kindness makes me EMO

Last weekend I went to my mate BabyMac’s long lunch to celebrate her ten years of blogging. Another good mate of mine Wendy Harmer also came along. There was a lot of love in the room.

Wendy did a bit of impromptu stand up which had the room in stitches. Mainly she said that menopause and puberty should never share the same roof.

Now, I am not yet in menopause and Horatio is not yet in puberty but by jove! Something is going on! We undertook an enormous spat last night over nothing in particular. I left to go to Trivia (which displayed that I had not cylinders firing but there were hot chips.) When I got home everyone was asleep. I crawled into bed to discover that Horatio had put a hot water bottle on my side.

It is my favourite human emotion. In a world where we are encouraged to be grateful and mindful, I can jump on board (if reminded). But nothing is better than kindness.

Take for instance yesterday afternoon. There was a knock at the door. I opened it to find my neighbour Anita. Anita just happens to own and run Sydney’s best cupcake company. (It’s true! Check it out here.) She also reads this blog and read about my sad, bad day yesterday and so she thought she could cheer me up a little bit with cake.

Not flowers, but cupcakes. Anita is small in stature, but I grabbed her and hugged her. Kindness, YO.

And another thing that happened yesterday (what DIDN’T happen yesterday?) was another random act of kindness. You see my baby sister, who is actually 31, took a nasty tumble on the slopes at Thredbo, and had an ambulance ride to Canberra hospital. She has done a COMPLETE number on herself. She has written about it here, through her endo haze. She is actually a very good writer and is responsible for the shenanigans of Toadie and the gang on Neighbours, as part of their scriptwriting team.

Anyway, our family do not really know anyone in Canberra, and Mum is doing trips up and back for the next two weeks but the offers of help from the WoogsWorld Instagram gang have been gratefully received.

Buggers should read huggers. A blogging mate of mine Lauren, who writes an excellent blog called The Thud, is the appointed chief hand holder in our Nations Capital. She doesn’t know my sister or my Mum. She is just a kind person.

You should also totally get on board her blog. THE THUD

Kate Royal? Dead set legend.

So you can have your generosity, your patience, your moral high ground, your honesty, your privilege and your wit. But kindness, there is nothing quite like it. Except for maybe cake.

Seen any acts of kindness lately?

Share them with me! I am totally emo right now. Must be the hormones.
