It is a CHOOK-CAN

Sponsored by Steggles

Australia Day is nigh and like most folks, we will be spending it by a body of water with the Barbie turned on. As you know, I have been working with Steggles on all things chook, and they have come up with a groovy little invention for you to try this Australia Day. And of course, I have road-tested it and it has received the all hallowed, rarely gotten five star tick of approval. Trust me, if I can do this, anybody can!

Speaking of cans, I present to you…

It is the Steggles BBQ Chook-Can! When I went to the supermarket to get my chook, I asked the lady working there where would I find the Chook-Can. She knew exactly what I was talking about and showed me where they were, which, ironically was right next to the chooks.

“You shove the can up the chooks butt…” She told me knowingly.

When I got to the checkout, the server was very inquisitive.

“Oh, we are all dying to try this out!” She exclaimed. So I told her that I was going to cook that chook straight away, and that I was a blogger and then I was going to write about it on the internet as that is a part of my job.

She looked very confused and gave me my change as I thanked her.

Back at HQ, with Mrs. Goodman away who usually does all things food around here, I was left to my own devices. Which was a bit nerve-wracking if I can be completely honest. But I need not have been concerned because preparing this dish was a doddle.

Pre-heat your hooded BBQ to a medium heat of around 180 degrees. Wash the chook and pat it dry with a paper towel. Open the Chook-Can and discard 100ml. Then, place the Chook-Can into the centre of a baking tray. Now, very carefully sit your chook on the Chook-Can. You might need to manhandle the chook a bit.

The whole thing goes onto the BBQ upright! Baste occasionally. Check on your chicken and you will know when it is done when the juices run clear when tested. Mine took about an hour.

Rest your chook for ten minutes or so before serving. The result was delicious. Infused with ginger and lemongrass, it was cooked to perfection.

The BBQ Chook-Can is free with every Steggles Family Roast whole chicken you buy, and is available from Woolworths from now, until sold out.

Are you going to give it a go?
